iPhone iOS 10 Users: 3 Steps to Save You Money (again)

The internet is buzzing about the latest features available with iOS10 or in the new iPhone 7’s– but it’s not the ability to remove installed applications that have people talking. Instead, it’s a little-known update that could be costing your company money.

It’s called WiFi Assist, and its intent is to improve wireless Internet browsing by automatically switching the data connection between the mobile carrier and WiFi, depending on which is more stable. In theory, this is a helpful feature, as it ensures a consistent Internet experience regardless of whether users are on a WiFi or cellular connection. But in practice, this can create a sudden unexpected increase in data consumption, especially if the user is not aware that the connection has switched. Users without an unlimited data plan will see extra charges adding up very quickly.

Luckily, there’s a simple solution. If you have employees that have upgraded to iOS 10, we recommend that you share these three steps to reduce the potential for costly overages:

  1. Head to Settings > Cellular
  2. Scroll all the way to the bottom of the page
  3. Turn off WiFi Assist

Mobile Solutions offers active monitoring of our clients’ mobile device usage to prevent unnecessary charges due to overages. Contact us today to find out how we can help you avoid monthly bill shock, especially in light of the recent iOS update.
